A Relaxed Summer Wedding at Whitekirk Hill | Alex & Leigh
There are some weddings that stay with you long after you've packed away your cameras, and Alex and Leigh's beautiful summer wedding at Whitekirk Hill is definitely one of them.
From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this wasn't about creating a perfectly staged day. It was about celebrating with the people who matter most, embracing every emotion and creating memories that would last a lifetime.
One of the things I loved most about photographing their wedding was how naturally the day unfolded.

A peaceful morning overlooking the East Lothian countryside
The morning began with Leigh getting ready in one of Whitekirk Hill's beautiful lodges, surrounded by her mum, sister and, most importantly, her little boy.
While I photographed the elegant details of the morning—the wedding dress hanging in the light, sentimental jewellery, her shoes and perfume—the atmosphere remained incredibly relaxed. There was laughter, champagne, heartfelt cards being opened and quiet moments that often become some of the most treasured memories from a wedding day.
One of my favourite photographs from the morning is of Leigh's mum fastening the back of her dress. These are the moments that often pass in seconds but become priceless years later.

Family at the heart of the day
What made Alex and Leigh's wedding so special was how family was woven into every part of their celebration.
Their little boy wasn't simply watching the day unfold—he was right at the centre of it.
From cuddles while everyone was getting ready to confidently making his way towards Mum and Dad during the ceremony, he brought smiles to every single guest.
These unscripted moments are exactly why I love documentary wedding photography. You simply can't recreate them.
Years from now, these photographs won't just remind Alex and Leigh how beautiful their wedding looked—they'll remind their son that he was part of every moment too.

An unforgettable ceremony at Whitekirk Hill
With the beautiful East Lothian countryside stretching into the distance, Alex and Leigh exchanged their vows surrounded by the people they love most.
Whitekirk Hill offers such a stunning setting for outdoor ceremonies, and the views across the surrounding landscape made the perfect backdrop without ever distracting from the emotion of the moment.
One of my favourite memories was watching their little boy wander towards them during the ceremony—a completely unplanned moment that perfectly summed up the relaxed, family-focused atmosphere of the day.
Sometimes the moments you never expect become the ones you treasure forever.

Relaxed portraits without missing the celebration
One thing I always tell my couples is that your wedding day should never feel like one long photoshoot.
Alex and Leigh wanted beautiful portraits while still spending as much time as possible with their guests, so we kept everything relaxed and natural.
We explored the grounds around Whitekirk Hill, making the most of the stone walls, open countryside and late summer sunshine while allowing plenty of time to simply enjoy being newly married together.
No awkward posing.
No rushing.
Just genuine moments between two people who couldn't stop smiling.

Laughter, hugs and unforgettable celebrations
The celebrations continued with heartfelt hugs, emotional reunions and plenty of laughter.
From friends lifting Alex into the air to joyful embraces with loved ones, there was an incredible energy throughout the day.
These are often the photographs couples don't realise they'll treasure until years later.
They're the moments between the formalities.
The moments that tell the real story.

Ending the day with the most beautiful sunset
As the evening drew to a close, Whitekirk Hill treated us to an incredible golden sunset.
We took just a few quiet minutes away from the celebrations, allowing Alex and Leigh to soak in everything that had happened.
Watching Alex carry Leigh back towards the venue with the sunset behind them was the perfect ending to an unforgettable day.
It was calm.
Romantic.
And the perfect final chapter to their wedding story.
